Mattress recycling · Ipswich
Single, double and king-size mattresses collected from any room and sent to be taken apart and recycled.
Mattresses are bulky, heavy and awkward to get down the stairs. They also take up a lot of space in landfill, where they do not break down. We collect mattresses across Ipswich and send them to facilities that take them apart for recycling.
A mattress is made of steel springs, foam, fibres and fabric. At a recycling facility these are separated: the steel is recycled, foam can be turned into underlay and other products, and fibres are recovered where possible.
We collect single mattresses from households as well as bulk loads from landlords, letting agents, hotels, student accommodation and care homes.
Standard sprung and foam mattresses.
Large mattresses, carried out carefully.
Foam and hybrid mattresses.
Bases and headboards collected together.
Small mattresses from nurseries and homes.
Several mattresses from hotels, care homes and rentals.
Mattresses are hard to compact and tangle machinery at waste sites, so many facilities treat them separately. Recycling them recovers useful steel and foam.
Mattresses that are wet, soiled or infested can still be collected, but tell us in advance so we can bag them for hygiene.
Very few charities accept used mattresses for hygiene reasons, so recycling is usually the best option.
Some retailers offer collection when they deliver a new mattress. If not, we can collect the old one the same day or next.
